Americans were previously allowed up to four free COVID-19 tests per household from the federal government, which were mailed to the homes of those who ordered them starting in January.
“We have made hundreds of millions of tests available for you to order for free,” Biden said. “Even if you already ordered free tests, tonight I am announcing that you can order more from covidtests.gov starting next week.”
Once ordered, tests are expected to be mailed by the USPS within seven to 12 days, according to the website. No ID, credit card, or health insurance information is required to make the second COVID test order.
Individuals who have trouble securing the COVID-19 tests through the Covidtests.gov website can call the hotline number that has been set up at 1-800-232-0233 or TTY 1-888-720-7489, seven days a week from 8 a.m. to midnight ET. The hotline is available in English, Spanish and more than 150 other languages.
The program is part of the government’s purchase of 500 million COVID-19 tests, which the Biden administration announced in December 2021
